There is a car park on the A896 just west of the bridge over the Allt a'Choire Dhuibh Mhoir. All rocks tell a story and it is that story that defines our landscape. You may spot hillwalkers heading towards the scree-chute at the left side of the back of the corrie - well to the left of the Triple Buttress - this is the usual and somewhat daunting route between the corrie and the ridges of Beinn Eighe. Instead, you should return the way you came; the views ahead are even more enjoyable on the way back. One of the most famous features of Beinn Eighe is the corrie named Coire Mhic Fearchair, often simply known as the "Triple Buttress Corrie" after the three large rock features which dominate the view from the north. There are many rock climbs on the buttresses and hillwalkers can access the tops of the buttresses from the head of the corrie. Open start point in Google Maps for directions. Anticlockwise circuit of Ben Eighe from P on A896. Walked round the back into Coire Mhic Fhearchair, up the scree to the left of the Triple Buttress, then to the two Munros and a direct descent to the path to the car park. welshyboyo: 30/06/2018: Beinn Eighe Munros and Tops from Glen Torridon: Geoff Briggs: 28/05/2018 This painting forms the first part of a collection being produced for the next series of SMC climbers’ and scramblers’ guidebooks, to commence in 2021. After going out to Sail Mhor, the route ascends to a'Coinneach Mhor and then does a detour to Ruadh-stac Mor and back. On the 17th March as report was received that a red flash had been seen in the Torridon area around the time the aircraft disappeared. Starting the walk, we headed up the very good path between Beinn Eighe and Liathach. The little-known but spectacular peaks of Baosbheinn (the Wizard's Mountain), Beinn an Eoin and Beinn a Chearchaill stand sentinel over the flat and empty moors and bogs. Climb the open book corner, and pull slightly right onto the crest of East Buttress. On Tuesday last week I travelled to Torridon to hike to Coire Mhic Fhearchair, a three hour walk to a hidden corrie behind Beinn Eighe. Triple Buttress Beinn Eighe - geograph.org.uk - 13524.jpg 640 × 419; 120 KB Triple buttress corrie.jpg 438 × 443; 61 KB West of the Torridon road - geograph.org.uk - 588691.jpg 800 × 600; 161 KB A left turn here leads behind Liathach; instead keep right on the larger path which climbs a little and then traverses across the foot of Sail Mhor, the westernmost of Beinn Eighe's peaks. Note that this walk is tough for Grade 2 and heads into wild and exposed terrain. After a further kilometre some reedy lochans are passed before a path junction is reached at a large cairn. On the 17th March as report was received that a red flash had been seen in the Torridon area around the time the aircraft disappeared. The path climbs well above the level of the stream and provides easy but fairly strenuous going, soon coming close below the eastern prow of Liathach - Stuc a' Choire Dhuibh Bhig, whose impregnable slopes are greatly foreshortened by their close proximity. Climb up the stone path to reach the loch, whereupon is revealed the great sight of the Triple Buttress of Beinn Eighe, across the loch under the summit of Coinneach Mhor. A signpost for Coire Mhic Nobuil indicates the start of the well-made stalkers path, heading up into the gap between the mighty mountains on the north side of the road. Excellent stalkers path all the way to the lochan with a rocky surface. Beinn Eighe is a complex mountain with many peaks and corries, the most beautiful of which is Coire Mhic Fhearchair with its loch and the towering triple buttress at its head; Sail Mhor forming the W slopes and Ruadh-stac Mor the E. The bealach and the climb beyond is uncharacteristically grassy and gentle, with great views back on the way up to the flat summit of Coinneach Mhor; in fact the top of the Triple Buttress, one of Scotland's finest cliffs, is only a short distance away to the west. Lead times for delivery of prints is approximately 2 weeks, with an additional allowance required for framing. The most dramatic feature is Coire Mhic Fhearchair - a spectaular amphitheatre with the famed Triple Buttress. A sign of my weary legs lay in my stumbling a little on too many occasions, not lifting my feet enough when walking. As well as reading our description of each walking route, you can read about the experiences of others users on this walk and others. There are 16 user reports for this walk - click to read them. Compared to the majesty of Liathach, Beinn Eighe looks less impressive from the road - an enormous and uninviting scree-girt ridge. Bestsellers. Callum Johnson and Tim Miller 04/Dec/2020. Beinn Eighe Path. This exclusive limited edition fine art print is the perfect gift to inspire future adventures into the majestic corries and mountains of Scotland. Does your firm want to sponsor this route. The loch itself is large and beautiful, and a popular place for a picnic in fine weather. As the path contours round to the right, new views open out into the wild landscape to the north of Torridon. A popular and straightforward hillwalk reveals the classic view of the towering Triple Buttress reflected in the waters of a beautiful lochan. Coire Mhic Fhearchair on the north side of Beinn Eighe is often described as a spectacular amphitheatre but, as well as that, it can also be a cold, rocky, inhospitable world. Once round the north side of Sail Mhor the path - still well-made - begins to ascend a little once more, with stone steps leading up towards the corrie. Chris feels this is what makes our crags so enticing to those that spend time in the hills or by the sea. Help-Crag Map. When viewed from the Glen Torridon, Beinn Eighe south facing slopes appear as a uniformed wall of scree, however the northern side of this mountain is complex with corries pushing out on a grand scale. Walking can be dangerous and is done entirely at your own risk. They are composed of two clear layers of rock, with their lower halves of sandstone whilst the upper sections are brighter quartzite, and together they are one of the most celebrated climbing grounds in Scotland. This is a telltale sign at the end of a long training run when I’m needing a rest! On this final climb there are fine waterfalls over to the left on the stream cascading down from the corrie. There is no feedback for this climb. The cliff is divided top and bottom by a clear line – the rock below this line is sandstone, while above is quartzite. Triple Buttress One of the most famous features of Beinn Eighe is the corrie of Coire Mhic Fearchair , often simply known as the “Triple Buttress Corrie” after the three large rock features which dominate the view from the north.
